Peachtree Publishers

An independently owned trade publisher located in Atlanta, Georgia, Peachtree Publishers was founded in 1977. They specialize in children's fiction and nonfiction, including board books, picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade and young adult novels, publishing about 30 books annually. Their mission is to "create books that captivate and educate young and old readers alike, with well-crafted words and pictures." (source)

They have a blog, a Facebook page, and they're on Twitter.

We found that Peachtree covers some tough subjects (like death in Zayde Comes to Live and slavery in Poet: The Remarkable Story of George Moses Horton). They appreciate a beautifully written story–even if it's a bit long by today's standards (like The King of Little Things and The Grudge Keeper). And they are committed to producing nonfiction that's informative, lyrical, and lovely to look at.

Peachtree Publishers accepts unsolicited submissions. Guidelines are available here.

Huge thanks to Peachtree Publishers for providing us with the names of the editors who worked on the books we read this month!

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, March 19 (a week after our usual 2nd Saturday date, which coincides with SCBWI-LA's Writer's Day). We will read books published by Eerdman's Books for Young Readers. They are listed as a religious publisher in SCBWI's The Book, but their children's division publishes a wide range of nonreligious titles. For example, the multi-award winner The Right Word: Roget and His Thesaurus by Jennifer Bryant and Melissa Sweet is one of their books.

  2. Helpful info! Thanks for the post. However, I'm having trouble with some links--first "interview" link, and the author/editor interview under Kathy Landwehr.
